BUBU - the shereen lau
i thought i'd turn in early today. so i went to bed, and sprung back up before 10 minutes. i thought i'd lost my best friend. a favourite person all through the toughest part of life called teenhood.
she stayed around, visibly, invisibly. i mentioned teenhood (aged 13 - 19). now we're 21. where have the later 2 years disappeared to? where has the soul that made me graded her a best friend disappeared to? oh anyway, this is not a post dedicated to bubu to wish her a happy birthday now that you're seeing it. but yes anyway, it was her birthday on 8th july. she is 4 days younger than me, yea whatever, it's true.
you are probably just like me. you hate hearing "i much prefer the previous you". i heard it once and i pinned that fellow who made this comment down forever. so whatever i say in this post, i cannot be sure that bubu wouldn't pin me down. she might even do something a full grown adult would never - i don't friend you! i lost her as a best friend. as in, i no longer know what she's like. laugh. just laugh at the pathetic friendship we held. the bestfriendship we thought was impeccable.
i digressed and i'm back. - but you cannot tell one that when one has already learnt so much in the period of your absence. say you are not saying that in hopes that one would forget what he/she has learnt? that's impossible! do not quote adidas, thank you.
but still, bubu, i much prefer the previous you. and ima pin myself anyway. i don't know what changed you. or maybe what changed my preferences.
to the you who was beautiful. beautiful in every way.
and you were beautiful because you:
- had little friends but was contented with each and everyone and everything you had;
- were super suaku, but lets your selflessness make up for it;
- go the distance, you know there's a friendship out there you truly care;
- had too thick a centreparted hair, too bushy an eyebrow, too bulgy a tummy;
- didn't care what makes you fat;
- wore a stupid banana shirt;
- would rollerblade and do nutty things;
- protected me in every way;
- swim, and not just for the sake of swimming;
- were curfew-ed;
- stopped everyone else from calling you bubu, and the reason why;
- had lye huat;
- didn't care about being beautiful, and you don't want a reason to be.
you had the character. not about wearing tight-fitting tops and thinking "i don't care if you see my fats pouring out. HEY I'VE GOT CHARACTER and i wear what i want," no that is not the character i'm looking at. it used to be "siao bo wear so tight for what? my banana shirt is comfy you moron. don't act chio la." dress you up? fat ass hope.
i had thought this would be a neverending post. i know i have too much to say, yet too hard to put it into words. some sounds too hurting, some just turn into plain sighs.
everyone's the same - they don't know what they had till it's gone. i don't see myself being better.
it's best to sort it this way, "whatever you say, it doesn't affect me. don't tell me what i used to be. i've got character now!" and i don't know what i'm talking about.
